and i thought that understanding had to do with curiosity and survival not hope.. as part of the whole we share as much amazement as the rest of the whole shares about us, at some point I think this ceases to be.
hope is the last outpost of the possibility of physical/intellectual attachment to a meaning or a possibility of meaning the first stages could be curiosity (although this word carries a carelessness to it...it is an intellectuals adventure more than a necessity) and ofcourse survival does tap into a more primal need but when these have been drined(asthey have been), then thee is only hope which is a form of self induced metaphysical narcosis the "so-called" human beings(as in being/heiddeger) last stand
but perhaps being makes miracles out of carelessness and clash, many relations are also accidental when previously they were miles apart and due to circumstances get closer..

Man has to awaken to wonder - and so perhaps do peoples. Science is a way of sending him to sleep again.
